YouTube Timestamp & Chapter Generator
Create timestamped YouTube links and generate validated YouTube-ready chapter timestamps. Optional video-duration validation helps prevent timestamps beyond the end of a video.
What is a YouTube Timestamp Generator?
A YouTube timestamp generator creates a link that opens a YouTube video at a specific point. This tool also includes a chapter generator for creators who want to format and validate timestamps for a YouTube video description.
How to create a YouTube timestamp link
- Paste a supported YouTube video URL.
- Enter the hours, minutes and seconds for the desired start time.
- Optionally enter the video duration if you know it.
- Review the live duration check.
- Click Generate Timestamp Link.
- Copy the generated link or open it to test the timestamp.
If the supplied duration is shorter than the selected start time, the tool warns you and prevents generation. Duration validation is optional because the tool does not fetch YouTube metadata.
How to generate YouTube chapters
- Add at least three chapter timestamps and titles.
- Start the first chapter at 00:00.
- Keep timestamps in ascending order.
- Make each chapter at least 10 seconds long.
- Optionally enter the video duration for live validation and final-chapter checking.
- Click Validate & Generate Chapters.
- Copy the generated chapter block into your YouTube video description.
When a duration is supplied, the tool warns if an entered chapter starts at or beyond the video duration or if the final chapter has less than 10 seconds remaining.
YouTube chapter requirements
YouTube currently documents these requirements for manually created video chapters: the first timestamp must start at 00:00, the video must have at least three timestamps in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.
Meeting these formatting checks does not guarantee that YouTube will display chapters. YouTube determines chapter availability and display based on its own eligibility and platform rules.
Supported YouTube URL formats
The timestamp link generator accepts common YouTube video URL formats including standard watch URLs, youtu.be links, Shorts URLs, embed URLs and live URLs.
No YouTube API required
The tool does not request YouTube video metadata. It extracts the video ID from the URL in the browser and constructs the timestamp URL or chapter text locally.
Because the browser cannot reliably obtain the video duration from the URL itself, duration validation is user-supplied. This keeps the tool API-free and avoids YouTube page scraping.
Optional video duration validation
You can enter a known YouTube video duration in MM:SS or HH:MM:SS format. The tool then checks timestamp links and chapter timestamps against that duration.
This validation is optional. The tool does not automatically fetch duration metadata because it is designed to work without the YouTube Data API or YouTube page scraping.
